Update to the below:
A few days later Ian spent several hours attacking thistles on the flat enough areas at the top alongside the A361 by the temporary fence, towards the cottage by the Ramblers' gate, and at the foot of the steep slope.
23.8.18: Ian and I ran his newer tractor with the topper over the first fields areas he had topped earlier in the year. There was evidence of some thistles re-flowering, so best to attack them.
The tractor & topper can only go over relatively flat ground, so the rough and steep sections will still need to be hand-pulled, by anyone who would care to help please.
