A Good Thistle-Chopping Day

Prompted by Emily S., a Mailchimp message was sent round to our "all interested people" list to request help on this day, Saturday 12th August 2017. We were pleasantly surprised that we had in total 15 people vounteering to help in this somewhat tedious but vital task. This is far beyond last year's numbers.

Between 09:30 and 12:00 we managed to de-head and pull up  a good area of flowering creeping thistles, then Anne C. continued to the top of the big field to attack spear thistles with her scythe.

The overall situation is better than last year due to the work done then and this year, but the big field in particular still needs attention. Many of the team today said they would return when they have some spare time. This removes the need for trying to organise a work party, as they now know what to do.

Saturday morning was a good suggestion for a work party, and we hope to be able to request some help in the Autumn when the cows have gone, specifically to grub up the bramble roots outside a manageable distance from the fence down the T.H.White border in the Sledging Field.

Thanks again to all those who gave up their time and energy.

Jimm Y.
